UZGP opens two more LG Resource Corners in Barguna
The Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) last week inaugurated two more Resource Corners (RCs) in Barguna district, raising the total number of RCs set up by the project to 18.
Of the two, one of the Resource Corners was established at Deputy Commissioner~s Office, Barguna while another at Barguna district public library.
Mr. Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan, Deputy Commissioner, Barguna district, formally inaugurated the RCs at his office on 28 March by cutting a ribbon. Mr. Mohammad Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Mr. Md. Shaugatul Alam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) and Mr. Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Additional District Magistrate and Acting DDLG of Barguna District were also present at that time.
Meanwhile, on 1 April, the Acting DDLG inaugurated second RC at Barguna District Public Library. District Librarian, Officials and readers in the library also joined the programme.
Addressing the inaugural function at his office, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan urged all including the government officials, public representatives of local government and academics to take full advantages of the Resource Corner. “The Resource Corners will work as a knowledge hub on local government from where government officials, LG experts and academics will get a wealth of resource on local government issues,” he said.
The Resource Corner will have all kinds of local government related laws, rules and regulations, circulars, reports, manuals, audio-visual materials and books on human development, poverty alleviation, and good governance. Two computers with internet facility were also provided to the RCs. The corners will be open to all. Researchers, academicians and enthusiastic students and government officials can use the corners free of cost.
The UZGP, funded by European Union (EU), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), UNDP and UNCDF, and being implemented by LGD, is providing the financial support for purchasing books, furniture and other necessary equipments for the corners.

The Upazila Parishad Governance Project (UZGP) is part of the overall programmatic framework for UNDP and UNCDF support to the Government of Bangladesh Local Governance reforms, supported by the European Union, the Governments of Switzerland (SDC) and Denmark (Danida). The UZGP is the product of the Preparatory Assistance that UNDP implemented during 2009-2010 (with Swiss support) to address many of initial challenges of UZPs.
This UZGP document is complemented by the programmatic framework document itself and the partner project UPGP that provides support to the Union Parishad (UP) level of local government as part of the wider Local Government Support Program. In this regard the UZGP and UPGP projects will have horizontal and vertical linkages throughout their implementation. In terms of project management there will be a shared implementation team(s) supporting both projects. Programmatically, both projects will share a common output covering policy and capacity development frameworks.
