UZGP Inception, Orientation Workshops Held in Sunamganj, Barguna

The Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) has been continuing to hold its district and upazila level inception and orientation workshops to familiarize its stakeholders with the project goals, objectives, components and its expected outcomes and outputs.

An upazila-level orientation workshop of UZGP was held in Sulla, Sunamganj on 3 September while a district-level inception workshop was held in Sunamganj on 29 August. Two other upazila level orientation workshops were also held in Betagi and Barguna Sadar Upazilas in Barguna district on 5 August and 23 July respectively.

At the day-long upazila level orientation workshop in Sulla, Sunamganj, on 3 September, the participants recommended for preparing a master plan for Upazila Parishad (UZP) for sustainability of development work, and making the UZP Standing Committees fully functional in ensuring pro-poor service delivery.

UZGP Orientation Workshops Held in Dhaka, Sylhet and Sunamganj

The UNDP-supported Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) has been continuing to hold its divisional and district level orientation workshops to familiarize its stakeholders with the project goals, objectives, components and its expected outcomes and outputs. Two divisional level orientation workshops were held in Dhaka and Sylhet divisions on 9 July and 24 July respectively while a district level orientation workshop was held in Sunamganj district on 26 July.

The workshops were also aimed at soliciting views from all relevant stakeholders including government officials, field level administration and public representatives and their suggestions for fine-tuning of implementation of the project. The roles and responsibilities of various partners and stakeholders in strengthening the Upazila Parishad were also discussed.

A day-long district level orientation workshop of UZGP titled “Strengthening the Upazila Parishad” was held at Conference Room of Jagannathpur Upazila Parisahd under Sunamganj district on 26 July. Mr. Md. Momtaz Uddin, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Director, Local Government (DDLG), Sunamganj, chaired the workshop while Upazila Parishad Chairman, Vice-chairmen, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and government officials of different line department at Upazila level were attended.

UZGP Gains Momentum with Orientations and Workshops

The UNDP-supported Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) is gaining momentum as a series of orientation programmes and workshops are being held at district and divisional levels across the country.

The orientations and workshops are aimed at introducing and explaining the project activities and components to all relevant stakeholders including government officials, public representatives, field level administration, NGOs and experts and solicit views, suggestions and input for fine-tuning of implementation of the project.

Through the orientations and workshops, the roles and responsibilities of various partners and stakeholders in the project implementation were also discussed.

4-day Orientation for DLGs, DDLGs and UZGP Staff held

A four-day Orientation Programme for Directors, Local Government (DLGs), Deputy Directors, Local Government (DDLGs) and Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) staff was held at National Institute of Local Government (NILG), Agargaon, Dhaka on 4-7 June. The Upazila Governance Project (UZGP), implemented by Local Government Division and supported by UNDP Bangladesh Country Office, organized the orientation.

The orientation started on 4 June with a briefing on UZGP project goals, objectives and strategies by Mr. Ashoke Madhob Roy, Additional Secretary (Admin) and National Project Director (NPD), UZGP.

Mr. Md. Akram-Al-Hossain, Joint Secretary (Admin) and Focal Person, UZGP, made a presentation on Upazila Parishad Act, 1998 (Amended in 2009 and 2011) and its Rules and Regulations while Dr. Tofail Ahmed, Technical Advisor of the Project, talked about Operationalize the Upazila Act and Rules by UZGP and Mr. Md. Oliullah, Project Manager, UZGP discussed on overall Project Management. On the second day of the orientation on 5 June, a thorough discussion, review and group work on UZGP Annual Work Plan 2012 was held. Mr. Swapan Kumar Sarkar, Director General (Addl. Secretary), Local Government Division made a presentation on Monitoring, Inspection and Evaluation and Procurement of the Project.
